Bowling

Virginians have recently presented
Maryland with more athletic
woes than used to be the case, and
the University Bowlers held up
their end of the deal with a 5-4
decision in College Park Saturday
afternoon.

The match was the first of the
season for the Virginia Bowlers,
who are a member of the Northern
Division of the Southern Intercollegiate
Bowling Conference.

Gary Atwell led the Cavaliers
ten pin devastaters with a three-game
total of 593. Dave Butler,
playing in the number one singles
spot, had the top single game score
at 221.

In a contest in which four
matches were not divided number
three man Steve Simmerman scored
five strikes in a row to defeat his
opponent and clinch the match.
Simmerman's 205-200 win was one
of four matches to be decided in
the tenth frame.
