[Why not now, my God, my God]

O when wilt Thou come unto me? —ci. 2.

Why not now, my God, my God,
(Ready if Thou always art,)
Make in me Thy mean abode,
Take possession of my heart?

If Thou canst so greatly bow,
Friend of sinners, why not now?
At the close of life's short day
For Thyself to Thee I cry:
Dying, if Thou still delay,
Must I not for ever die?
Enter now Thy poorest home,
Now, my utmost Saviour, come!
