The Negro's Salvation
General Armstrong felt that the education
of the hand was the surest salvation for
the Negro race, and his faith in the practicability
of his plan was implicit And that
principle, started by General Armstrong years
ago, when it was small, and he was misunderstood
and harshly criticised, has gradually
worked its way into the whole educational
system of not only the South, but of the North
and West, for white and black boys and girls
