McKim Wins
An outweighed, outmanned
squad of fourth-year architects
fought valiantly but to no avail
Sunday in Mad Bowl, losing in
football to the fourth-year nurses
by a score of 26-18.
The slickly-coached McKimmies
relied on speed and deception in
routing the architects. Stephanie
Smiley scored twice for McKim,
once on a 57-yard scamper around
left end and again on the receiving
end of a Ruth Cox aerial.
Quarterback Cox starred as well for
the nurses, passing for another TD
to Gale Ahroon and running in
another score on a trick play where
she waited for everyone else to take
a beer break and then headed for
the goal line. Mary Anne Alfriend
added the final McKim points by
blocking an architect's punt and
nailing him for a safety.
The jubilant nurses expressed
confidence after the game that they
had a squad capable of taking on
anyone at the University. A game
has already been arranged with the
graduating engineers for next
Sunday, and challenges have been
issued to the Lawn residents
