Student Takes
First Prize
For Short Story

Scott M. Lewis, a fourth-year
man in the College, has won first
prize in the Atlantic Monthly
magazine's national creative writing
contest.

Mr. Lewis won $100 for his
story, "The Blue Plaid Sucker
Fish," about a Florida fishing
vessel which is chartered by a
state senator. The story was written
for English 21, a course in
advanced composition, and it is
the first time a University student
won first place in national competition.
The story will appear in a
book published by Atlantic
Monthly and information about
Mr. Lewis and the contest will
appear in the June issue of the
magazine.

Mr. Lewis is a member of ODK,
the Raven Society, T.I.L.K.A.,
past present of the German
Dance Society, past vice president
of the University Union and Kappa
Alpha Order.
