Citing the fact that the hero
of the battle of Lepanto was in
his teens, and that Pilt was
Prime Minister of England at
age twenty-four, Mr. Kett has
ample faith in the potential of
the young.

But he fears the "rah-rah"
colleges foreseen by one of his
favorite authors, Stephen
Leacock. At Leacock's
Shucksford College, the paper
is the Daily Shuck, and all the
students are called shucks.

Although admissions are
very strict, the average Shuck is
required to think about three
courses. There are no lectures.
Training dogs and fishing are
part of the academic
curriculum. The school runs its
own distillery. And so by
analogy, Mr. Kett says he sees
little need for sex education or
other trifles.
