292. W. W. DAVIS IRON MANUFACTURING COMPANY PAPERS

ca. 1,000 items, 1841-1907
Mainly business and personal letters of W. W. Davis concerning his iron business in Rockbridge County and other activities. A February 9, 1844, letter from Benjamin A. Firebaugh to . B. Stuart discusses the possibility of hiring out a slave, and a January 1845 bond for the hire of a female slave specifies her clothing allotment, as does one for1858. This collection has a good amount of material on the practice of hiring out slaves.
