[Lo, at long intervals, the rage is]

Lo, at long intervals, the rage is
The darkest countries to explore;
Thus, in three very distant ages,
Three voyagers traced Afric's shore.
Old Egypt had her Pharo-Necho;
Her Gama well may Lisbon boast;
Yet is their fame a feeble echo
To Lander's trump from Cornwall's coast!
And we assert—nor into fiction wander—
Necho and Gama vanish'd before Lander!
