University
Folk Singers
In Semi-Final

Sounds coming from the Academical
Village this week will be
more in the style of the popular
folk-rock music group Credence
Clearwater Revival than Jeffersonian.

This "Academical Village," a
namesake of Thomas Jefferson's
original University building complex
is composed of six University
Glee Club members who have
formed their own folk-singing
group, they will compete this
Saturday (March 7) against singers
from nine other eastern universities
in the regional semi-finals of the
10th Intercollegiate Music Festival
at Villanova University.

The group was chosen on the
basis of a tape recording as one of
87 semi-finalists out of 3,500
applicants from across the country.
The winners of each regional
semi-final competition will perform
at the final competition in St.
Louis. Mo., next August.

Peter, Paul and Mary's "If I Had
My Way" and the Creedence's
"Proud Mary" will be among the
selections the group will sing
Saturday according to leader Tom
Diklich a second-year student from
Chesapeake.

Other members of the Academical
Village are William D. Hasty Jr.
of Richmond; Richard S. Hanger,
Virginia Beach; Dean DeBuck,
Alexandria, all second-year students,
and, Andrew Mackey Jr.,
Richmond and Mark Lawson, Bristol,
both first-year students.
