Shaw Favored For QB

Most interesting balloting
should take place in the
quarterbacking category. Three
outstanding nominees have
been selected. Bruce Shaw,
who held the reins of State's
explosive attack and led the
league in passing and total
offense, has a tenuous edge.

Nick Vidnovic, leader of the
champion Tar Heels, will
challenge Shaw as will Mark
Johnson, a sophomore who put
fire in the Duke offense after

gaining a starting job in
mid-season.

Another close race will be
for the two running back spots.
Willie Burden and Stan Fritts
of State, Wade Hughes of
Clemson, Steve Jones of Duke,
the leading rusher, and Ike
Oglesby of UNC are the
nominees.

Surest bets seem to be
Sullivan, All-American tackle
Ron Rusnak of UNC, Duke's
defensive anchorman Ed
Newman, and workhorse
tailback Jones.
