EPIGRAM CLXXVI.
[The world can nothing sure, we're told]
NE PLUS ULTRA.
The world can nothing sure, we're told,
Save death and taxes show:
Of death, no doubt, the fact will hold—
Of taxes, not quite so:
Save death and taxes show:
Of death, no doubt, the fact will hold—
Of taxes, not quite so:
Two chances fortune's wheel contains,
Taxation's course to stay;—
When nothing to be tax'd remains;
Or nothing's left—to pay.
Taxation's course to stay;—
When nothing to be tax'd remains;
Or nothing's left—to pay.
