University of Virginia Library

Thank You

Dear Sir:

I am writing to thank your
editors for their recent stand of
support concerning the sale of the
Albemarle Playhouse Dinner
Theatre. Firstly, I thank you
selfishly, as those of us who have
been working this past year to get
the Playhouse off the ground would
like to stay and continue to
perform.

Secondly, I thank you for
understanding our goals at the
Playhouse, i.e. we have wanted to
bring to Charlottesville a type of
entertainment heretofore
unavailable (name the last time that
you heard of a dinner theatre
presenting Shakespeare and
"Oklahoma" back to back).

Finally, I thank you for
supporting an organization with
nothing backing its continued
existence except the concern of
citizens such as yourself (it
sometimes slips our minds that
University students are also
citizens).

One final thank-you: The
Virginia Players, your own drama
group from which many of us are
graduates, have been incredibly
helpful in our dramatic efforts thus
far, on and offstage. In some
communities, a spirit of bitter
competition is the only connection
between theatrical groups. I think
that you can be proud of the
healthy, professional approach of
the Players.
