"What Next?" Dept.

Our thanks to those members of the "Stanford
White Memorial Society" who expressed
their feelings about certain of our editorials
by leaving petrified Food Service doughnuts,
carefully addressed to the authors
of the editorials in question and carefully
bound in copies of the editorials in question,
on one of the desks in our expansive offices.

It has always been our policy to welcome
criticism of any sort (it's all part of the
old "fellow the truth" syndrome), and we
admire the imagination and industry of those
readers who contrived this new method of
expressing themselves. We must admit that
we were tempted to cat the pastries involved,
but we refrained from doing so lest we desecrate
the intentions of those who left
them for us.

Just for the record, we suggest our letter
column for such critics in the future, for,
try as we did, we were unable to derive
any enlightenment on the problems of the
editorials from the doughnuts.
