LOST LABOVR

There's a gentleman out yonder
Who is sowing early peas;
He puts a line across the ground,
And makes a little trench;
And already in his folly
He is feeling very jolly
As he dreams, of coming dinners,
On his knobby rustic bench.
But my artful pouter pigeons
Take great interest in peas,

47

And they sit devising measures
Which will give that planter pain;
For I'm sure he will be nettled,
When he hears that they have settled,
And are carefully collecting
All those early peas again.
