Cheap Sandwich

Leaving the Communications
Center finally, Solomon hankers for
a cup of coffee. There is a snack bar
on campus, but he decides to walk
the mile to Fuller's in Phoebus. It's
heavy: a TV plays to a half-dozen
of the working class as they sip their
beers at the bar. "The cheapest
sandwich prices in town" are
roughly scrawled on paper on the
wall. An old man, white-haired and
unshaven, coughs and talks to the
counter-lady about long distance
rates, cough-cough, the fairness of
direct dialing and calling through
the operator, cough...

Solomon walks back to his
room, and reads and writes until
bedtime. What an enriching,
fulfilling day, reflects Solomon
Moses.
