It is necessary that you instruct your shippers
to forward by mail, that is
by the ship in which
the goods come, an invoice of these and bill
of
lading. These articles are indispensible
at the Customs House—And
without which,
goods are subject to be opened, and duties
assessed at
once—if the parties to whom
said goods are shipped be not
reliable.
I wrote to you by the Stevens that the
bill for
the freight of the goods out had been
handed me for
payment—as also the
bill for the transportation of the goods to
the
depot I am looking for
dayly.
The transpor
tation of the
three Kegs of nails, box of hard
ware, and box
of shoes from the depot to
Careys
burg
I met myself—, for which I hold
you indebted to
me—as also should I pay
the other bills i.e., the duty bill, and
Transporta
tion bill from Monrovia to the depot.
