BRACKETING:

a term used in PHENOMENONLOGY to designate the practice of attempting to lay aside one's presuppositions and experience or understand how things occur in human awareness. In RELIGIOUS STUDIES it is common to ask students to "bracket," i.e. temporarily lay aside their own BELIEFS while attempting to understand the beliefs of others.
