Carmichael Cup

The University is in sixth
place in the race for the
Carmichael Cup for excellence
in ACC athletics after the fall
season, it was announced last
week by the conference
commissioner's office.

North Carolina, on the basis
of football and cross-country
championships, has taken the
lead with 18½ points, 10 ahead
of the Cavaliers.

The Cavalier football team
earned the highest finish of any
fall squad as it picked up four
points as a result of its tie for
third place with Duke and
Wake Forest. Virginia booters
tied for sixth place with
Clemson (2½ points), and in
cross-country, a sixth place
netted two points.

Scoring in the competition
is based on seven points for a
first place finish, six for a
second, etc., down to one
point for a last-place team.
