Ode To Night
Indispensable night!
Wringing tears of joy and sorrow
From love-locked bodies tensing for the day
Cannot your silk-soft darkness hold back the searing light
That strips away the veil from faults
And makes bare the hideous truth that is a lie?
Is day to be the victor to weigh the tired soul with care
And banish love that otherwise would dare?
Cannot your darkness make its peace with Day
And prove that you are really one?
O velvet night that covers all our cares
Whose other side is hidden by the Sun
