New Film Club To Offer
Production Workshops

By David Burke

In the tradition of starting from
where the curriculum ends, the
Film Club will hold a meeting
tonight for students interested in
film-making at 7 p.m. in Wilson
Auditorium.

Open to students regardless of
previous experience, the club offers
a place to practice And experiment
with every facet of production
from scriptwriting And set design to
directing.

Instruction will be offered And
the club even hopes to sponsor
several film festivals, perhaps one of
old horror films.

In the way of film
documentaries, the club will offer
workshops as well as a Fredrick
Wiseman documentary film festival
("Hospital," "High School," etc.),
probably one of the first in the way
of film festivals.

The intent of the club is to
supplement the curriculum And,
according to Mr. David Weiss,
Drama Department chairman,
possibly lay the groundwork for
production classes for credit at the
University.

Also, as club president Chris
Dickey points out. "If we can get
this thing going, we will be virtually
the only major school in the south
to have facilities for film
production. If we don't, we will be
the only top U. in the country not
to."

Mr. Walter Korte, who teaches
the only two film courses offered
by the University, is the other
faculty sponsor.

The club will have to start from
scratch since the University has
nothing in the way of equipment.
This includes fund raising projects
And applying to Student Council
And other outside groups for the
needed money.
