“Ten o'clock!”—it strikes the hour—
On her knees the Lady bows;
She believes her prayers have power
To keep the foul fiend from the house;
So when young her mother told her,—
Few there be can change when older
Creeds received in childhood's days—
The girl believed—the woman prays.
