Other Side

Dear Sir:

Notwithstanding the validity of
complaints directed against the
Department of Security in the
recent Student Council meeting and
reported in prior issues of the
Cavalier Daily, we feel it necessary
to relate certain positive aspects of
that Department.

Whether our contacts with the
Department of Security be more
extensive or less extensive than the
contacts of the average student, or
more specifically, the contacts of
those people who have expressed
their observations and opinions, we
have had the misfortune as well as
the necessity of being in contact
with the Department of Security.
Misfortune takes the form of traffic
tickets. Necessity results in many
acts, ranging from putting out fires
in Dempsey Dumpsters in Copley
Hill to picking up stray sick dogs
which endanger the safety of
children.

In many situations which
threaten the health, safety and
general welfare of the members of
the University community, the
Department of Security has always
been responsive to our calls and
those of our neighbors.

It is not our intention to
condone any form of
discrimination; and while the above
positive aspects may not be at issue
in the eyes of those who are
displeased with the attitude and
performance of the Department of
Security, we feel it necessary that
they be brought to light.
