After reading Rod MacDonald's
column on the Right
at the University, I could not
hold back my nausea for his
complete misinformation
about the Y.A.F. and its
posture on today's college
campus (or grounds, whichever
you may prefer).
He made three comments which
need to be contested. First was his
comment on the traditionalism of
the Y.A.F. The conservative movement
is caught between two poles,
traditionalism and libertarianism,
with libertarianism the much more
dominating force. Second, his comment
on the violence of "rednecks
and young conservatives" (look
how typically he grouped the two
types together) was ill-perceived.
The New Right is against violence
for violence's sake. But I'll be
damned if I'm attacked by a thug
or communist aggression (both
threaten my individual freedoms)
and don't fight back. What would
you do, Mr. MacDonald? And his
final comment on our stand on
racism. No group is more against
racism than Y.A.F. But we believe
anti-racism must be encouraged on
an individual level. Could you point
out, Mr. MacDonald, where in
history was it possible to control
men's minds, either by coercive
legislation (which takes away the
right to discriminate - forgot about
that human right, didn't you?) or
by gun point?
Than you for the time to
straighten out a very naive editorial
writer.
