Just a thought...
In these times when hardly a day passes
without an incidence of student unrest, and
there continues to be increasing indications
of student unrest at Virginia, it seems the
administration is in a somewhat precarious
position, a position which requires the
ultimate in good management and is "easier
said than done."
A change that could be implemented
with only a few changes in the "old way"
and at the same time would emphasize one of
Virginia's most cherished traditions. (The
Honor System) is to permit the students to
schedule their own exams. Numerous cases
could be sighted of students whose exam
schedule was over in three days and the
results were often disastrous! I can foresee
many problems, but the change doesn't
come overnight and a significant beginning
could be made this semester: permit those
students with two exams in one day to
reschedule one, providing the professor will
be sympathetic and agree. This is a relatively
simple, fair, desired, and (I feel) necessary
change.
