farm servants; an 1863 valuation of a slave at
$3,250 by a committee of freeholders; a September
18, 1863, letter from a slave asking Cabell to keep his wife; an 1864 list of
shoes delivered to slaves; and an August 18,

had been killed by poisonous brandy.
