While insurrection's imps were seen to fly
The flashing terrors of his angry eye;
O'er them humanity triumphant smil'd,
For not the stain of blood the triumph soil'd.

None but strangers to the history of the United States will require to be informed, that an allusion is here made to the happy suppression of the insurrection on account of the excise law.
