[What say the false faint-hearted spies?]

The people be strong, and the cities are walled, &c. —xiii. 28.

What say the false faint-hearted spies?
“Why should we make the world our foe?
Satan's strongholds that reach the skies
Can feeble flesh and blood o'erthrow?
The walls of our corruptions must,
Till death demolish them, remain:
The ruin of all pride, all lust
The Lord hath promised us—in vain.”
