THE MISANTHROPE.

AND are there men, with hate oppress'd,
Self-centred, lonely, stern, forlorn;
Who gaze around, from east to west,
With eyes that only look to scorn?

Who hates his race must hateful be,
A thing of Saturn, wandering here!
This is a world of sympathy;
Back to thine own benighted sphere!
