“Oh, Redwald, hasten from my view,
“Thy sight my terrors all renew,
“In mercy not a moment stay,
“Depart, before my words betray
“The guilty secret, dark and dread,
“Which rous'd the slumbers of the dead!”

A livid hue on Redwald's cheek
Was spread—he vainly strove to speak,
A deadly mist his sight o'ercame,
And scarcely could his trembling frame
Support the fears he could not chase,
Which shook his firmness to its base!
At length he said—“My love, explain,
“Nor idly cause my bosom pain;
“Say what the hidden cause may be,
“That accusation lights on me!”
