ODE XXIII. To Chloe.
You shun me, Chloe, as a Fawn
To seek her Dam affrighted flies
Through every Mountain, Wood and Lawn,
And trembles at each rushing Breeze.
To seek her Dam affrighted flies
Through every Mountain, Wood and Lawn,
And trembles at each rushing Breeze.
Her Breath alternate comes and goes,
If but a Lizard stir the Leaves:
And if the Zephyrs fan the Bows,
She starts and quivers, pants and heaves.
If but a Lizard stir the Leaves:
And if the Zephyrs fan the Bows,
She starts and quivers, pants and heaves.
I follow not as Lions chace
Their fleeting Prey along the Plains:
Then leave your Mother's cold Embrace,
Since you are grown mature for Man's.
Their fleeting Prey along the Plains:
Then leave your Mother's cold Embrace,
Since you are grown mature for Man's.
