Tired Feet

"For once Student Council has gotten
something done on its own," thus spoke
Student Council President Kevin Mannix
about the new busing system scheduled to go
into action this Monday. Student Council has
rented two buses from the Yellow Transit
Company in an effort to evaluate the
potential expenses and benefits a busing
system could bring to the Grounds. It
should be a welcomed addition. Well do we
remember the debates from our first year
during which the pain and wasted time of
hoofing to the Corner was weighed against the
gastronomical disaster that was sure to result
from another meal at the Glass Hat or the
Castle. As more athletic facilities become
open to students at University Hall and when
some of the academic buildings are
constructed on the Duke tract, buses will
become essential, especially for students who
do not have ready access to automobiles.

The physical breadth of the University has
long caused daily inconveniences for both
faculty and students. The answer to the
distance problem was definitely not the
arrival of the automobile in vast numbers.
There are so many of the four-wheeled
monstrosities (ah! remember those
two-wheeled rolling disasters) jamming the
precincts that their single virtue of mobility is
removed. A full busing system with large
parking lots on the outskirts of the Grounds
could alleviate many of the distance
inconveniences and further beautify the
University at the same time.

Since the Administration was reluctant to
act on the heart of the matter ("Let them
walk to class"), Student Council decided to
dilly-dally no longer. The scenic ride will only
cost the student a thin dime per trip. Why
don't you give your tired feet a rest Monday
and show the Administration how people
really get positive things accomplished.
