Muddy
Someone had remarked to me
that the piece sounded muddy
because Bach wrote it that way. I
hardly think this is the case. Rather
the fault lies in the Band's
performance of it or just merely in
their attempting to undertake it in
the first place.
The last two works on the
program were Richard Wagner's
"Good Friday Spell" from his
opera "Parsifal" and Ingolf Dahl's
"Sinfonietta," written in 1961. The
Wagner was typically rich and
romantic, well performed, and the
Dahl would be best described as
simply a really cool modern piece
of music. At times it had a flavor
reminiscent of Bartok.
By this time, the Band had fully
recovered from the weak showing
in the Bach and had fully
coordinated themselves for the
Dahl which made for an excellent
conclusion to the concert.
