Delaney And Bonnie
To Offer Gospel Rock
Delaney & Bonnie & Friends is
virtually unknown at the University
with its appearance at the homecoming
concert less than 48 hours
away. In contrast, Pacific Gas and
Electric Company - the other
group sponsored by the University
Union - is quickly recognized due
to this summer's air time of their
hit single, "Get Ready."
Delaney and Company is classified
by Cash Box Magazine as a
"Southern Gospel Rock Group"
with their sound a "fusion of gospel
music and swamp rock."
Their sets vary from pure gospel
to a blend of country and rock.
Bonnie formerly sang with the like
and Tina Turner Revue, yet Cash
Box lists her second only to Janis
Joplin as a screaming rock singer.
Rave notices for the group first
appeared this past winter after Eric
Clapton, former superstar load guitarist
for Cream and Blind Faith.
Joined the Friends. In addition to
the approximately eight regulars,
George Harrison and John and
Yoko Lennon have played in the
Friends.
Clapton left this summer, but
his hard rock influence remains.
With Clapton the group played
Fillmore East after their European
tour. They taped a set for the
Everly Brothers Summer Show during
their spring tour of the United
States.
