[I sing th'illustrious, and renowned Story]
I sing th'illustrious, and renowned StoryOf mighty Samson; The eternall glory
Of his Heroicke acts: His life, His death:
Quicken my Muse with thy diviner breath,
Great God of Muses, that my prosp'rous Rimes
May live and last to everlasting times;
That they unborne may, in this sacred Story,
Admire thy goodnes, and advance thy glory.
