EARTHSWISDOM.
Amid the Leaves, yon wingëdGem of air,The firefly, sparkles, with his paley light,
Shedding a halo faint, that to the sight
Scarce makes him visible, as if he were
A Miser hoarding his frail lamp with care.
Methinks in this poor insect, read aright,
An emblem of that selfish prudence might

The name of Wisdom, tho' it scarcely throw
Light on the narrow circle of its own
Moletrack: oft wanting found e'en in the low
And grovelling paths of earthly Gain alone.
True Wisdom, like the Star above me now,
With catholic and alldiffusëd light doth glow!
