Slithy Toves Return
Here Friday Night

As an added attraction in the
Easter's Weekend entertainment
line-up, the ever-popular Slithy
Toves will return to Bayly Museum
Friday night to perform at a dance.
At their last appearance there in
October they treated a capacity
crowd to an exciting evening of
music and visual effects.

Since October the Toves have
played at the Hollins Literary
Festival and wrote and performed
the musical score for a musical
produced at Sweet Briar College.

Their music combines the more
sophisticated elements of rock with
complex jazz forms. A great deal of
emphasis is placed on their inventive
improvisational solo work
which adds an important dimension
of spontaneity to their music. The
Toves are constantly experimenting
and creating within each song — a
mood that can be followed
throughout the number.

For over three years the Slithy
Toves have been probably the most
popular University-based rock
group. They claim that this popularity
it produced by their success in
evoking emotion from an audience,
rather than imitating it. Over half of
their material is original, and most
of the rest is the produce of original
arrangements, a fact which makes
many people regard their performances
as genuine, unique experiences.

The horn section that appeared
with the group last October has
long since been dropped. "We felt
that the horns were too restrictive
and tended to slow down the
group," remarked lead guitarist
Smith.

A light show will be provided by
Cliff Kiracofe, who first became
interested in lights in Switzerland.
He had incorporated many European
techniques into his show and
concentrates on special three-dimensionality.

The dance begins at 10 p.m.
following the PK-German concert,
and will last until 1 a.m. Tickets are
on sale at all the usual places for
$1.25. It looks to be an interesting
evening of music and lights.
