"A Man Who Hates..."

Fields Festival Here Sunday

"Phaedra" and W. C. Fields
head off the movie schedule this
week in Newcomb Hall Ballroom.

Tonight the modern version of
the queen who fell in love with
her stepson will be shown at 7
and 9 p.m. Directed by Jules Dassin,
"Phaedra" stars Melina Mercouri
in the title role with Raf
Vallone as her fabulously rich
husband and Tony Perkins as the
tycoon's son.

A W. C. fielday starts Sunday
at 7 and 9 p.m.

"The Pharmacist" is a story of
the trails and tribulations of Pharmacist
Fields which makes this
Fields' show a hilarity from beginning
to end. The family lives in an
apartment over the drug store-wife
Elise and daughters "Babe"
and Lorena. The climax comes
when a gangster gunfight begins
on the street outside; a gangster
runs into the store with guns
blazing, and Lorena's boyfriend,
Grady, who has just brought her
home, has awaited to call her from
the pay phone in the store. Fields
has had a low opinion of him,
but here Grady wins out. The
gangster is just outside the phone
booth door-Grady opens the door
and clobbers him-and becomes
the hero of the moment!

"The Fatal Glass of Beer" is
an absolutely ridiculous comedy
based on an earlier stage sketch
by Fields, set in the far north
that is the domain of the Royal
Canadian Mounted Police and
where the nights are "not fit for
man nor beast."

"Circus Slicker" pictures Fields
as Whipsnape who owns a circus
which is the greatest show on earth
...for keeping ahead of the sheriff.
"The Great Chase" is the classic
in which Fields becomes involved
in the funniest mixup with bandits
ever seen. He is forced to drive
their getaway car and he drives
them crazy. "Hurry, Hurry!" is a
classic as thrills, chills and hysteria
make up the maddest motorcar
merry making ever screened!

"The Barber Shop" stars W. C.

Fields in a story which he wrote
himself. It portrays the bumbling
and carefree barber, Cornelius
O'Hare. Elise Cavanna, cast as
his vegetarian and completely sober
wife, does a tremendous job. Fields
is in top form as the purveyor of
village gossip and solver of countless
individual problems-from
both his customers and innumerable
"strays" and passers-by.

The Master Comedian is up to
his old tricks again in "The Great
McGonigle" as he juggles his way
in and out of the funniest situations
of his film career. What
happens when his vaudeville tour
is cancelled is enough to keep
you doubled up with laughter!
