From brazen trains the storm prepares to rise,
And dusky wreaths of smoke to shrowd the skies:
First silent gloom prevails—'mid clouds of fire,
Then deathful engines sound the onset dire.
Now iron balls through less'ning legions bound,
Whiz red in air and rock the gory ground:
So swells the sound when torrent waters pour
On the stunn'd ear th' intolerable roar;
Or when tornadoes black the world assail,
And burst th' eternal magazines of hail.
