The Gardener, struck with Susan's charms,
Had sometime woo'd her to his arms,
Nor woo'd in vain, for Cupid's dart
Had, also, pierc'd the Maiden's heart;
But still a sense of duty strove
Nor strove in vain to guide her Love
For her dear Lady must command,
Before she gave her willing hand.
