[Men will be light of heart and glad]

Men will be light of heart and glad,
When we are sad;
Or if perchance our hearts are light,
With them 'tis night.
Kind Nature, but 'tis never thus
With thee and us:
But thee in all our moods we find
Unto our mind.
We laugh, and dance in all thy bowers
The jocund flowers—
We mourn, and every flower appears
Bedropt with tears.
O Mother true, from ways of men
To this far glen,
Dear Mother, to thy breast I creep,
And weep, and weep.
