Roanoke's Health Department

The rapid increase in Roanoke's population in the
last decade necessitated a reorganization of its Health
Department, for with the growth of the city a number
of sanitary problems have arisen, which could be successfully
met only by a modern, well-equipped department
of health under the
direction of trained sanitarians.
Early in 1910
the Council passed an ordinance
providing for the
creation of such a Health <
