Holiday

Dear Sir:

I must take issue with your
editorial position concerning
Student Council's request for
suspension of classes on
Election Day. Had Council
proposed a "Princeton Plan"
with a two week student hiatus
for political activity, you
contentions would have been
correct. The advantages given
students under such a Plan are
clearly unavailable to other
citizens.

But Council suggested
nothing of the sort. If
anything, our proposal helps to
eliminate the present
discrimination against students
in their choice of voting place,
and gives students voting
opportunities equal to those of
other citizens.

"Doctors, journalists, auto
mechanics, secretaries, and
University administrators",
with whom you compare
students, all vote where they
live. They are not given the day
off because it is not necessary
to the exercise of their
franchise. For residents of the
area, voting is simply
a matter of a half-hour trip to
the precinct headquarters.

Students at this University,
however, because of an absurd
opinion by Virginia's attorney
