[To Violanta constant love]

To Violanta constant love
Fond Callignotus sighing swore:
He vow'd that none his heart shou'd move,
His heart, that ne'er shou'd vary more.

He swore indeed: but oaths, they say,
Which languishing young lovers swear,
To heav'n did never make their way,
Cou'd never reach immortal ear!
For now he burns with other fires,
And wretched Violanta scorns,
Who, while new love his heart inspires,
Unnoted quite complains and mourns.
