Allocations Cut

According to Council
Vice-President Larry Sabato,
Engineering representative
Jerry Harris told Council last
Tuesday night that the Honor
Guard's allocation from the
battalion's activities fund had
been cut from about $300 to
nothing.

This is the first time that the
Honor Guard, which is a
recognized student
organization, has requested
funds from Council.

Mr. Sabato stated his
opposition and said, "First,
you must be in NROTC to be a
member of the Honor Guard.
Other than for student
governmental bodies open
admissions is the rule for other
organizations receiving funds."

"Second, it is the long
standing policy not to fund
what should be a departmental
function.

However, Mr. Harris said the
Honor Guard receives no funds
from the Naval Science
Department, and it exists like
other student organizations for
the enjoyment of its members.
