No Surrender
Even though it seems like 1964 again
throughout most of the University, the past
weekend was marked by several signs of
continuing concern on this issue of the war.
One demonstrator, one of the first, and
probably not the last to protest in
Charlottesville, was arrested in Scott Stadium
even as the ranks of ROTC cadets and
midshipmen, undaunted by previous
demonstrations and reduced academic credit,
marched before him to the beat of a different
drummer.
While the dogwoods bloomed and the Blue
Angels played deftly to an SRO crowd at the
airport, those folks just could not let their
consciences rest. If the small band of
dissidents have done nothing else, they have
proved that May 1970, was, at least to them,
not just a vacation, but a dedication to a
position from which they would not retreat
an inch.
