THE HAPPY THRUSH

When Spring, with its sunshine and beauty of bud,
Woke a love in his heart and desire in his voice,
A comrade he found,
Of a velvety round,
Whom he courted and won as the bird of his choice.
There's joy and there's pride in the house in the hedge,
For the eggs of last night are a golden-throat clan;
Five children are born
In the thick of the thorn,
And the voluble thrush is a Family Man!
