THE Secend ODE OF ANACREON.
Nature for defence affordsFins to Fish, Wings to Birds,
Hoofs to Horses, Claws to Bears,
Swiftness to the fearful Hares,
To Man, their Master, Wit and Sense,
But what have Women for defence?

Women's Weapons are their Charms;
Beauties Weapons make us feel
Deeper Wounds than those of Steel,
Beauty kindles warm desires,
Stronger than the fiercest Fires;
Strength and Wit before it fall,
Beauty Triumphs over all.
