Vote

Today and tomorrow The Cavalier Daily
sponsors a mock presidential primary for
University students and staff. Ballot boxes
and ballots will be located at the usual
locations for University elections (details on
page 4).

The purpose of the primary, like all
primaries, is to find out who "the people"
prefer for president. Like many primaries, this
one of course carries no obligation for
delegates who actually select the men from
whom we choose in November. Nevertheless,
we feel that an expression of the preferences
of the University community would be a
valuable barometer of University opinion and
an interesting guide by which to follow the
realpolitik that transpires this summer.

The election is open to anyone affiliated
with the University, be he student, staff,
faculty, or administrator. If there is any sense
in which the University is a microcosm of a
larger community it is only in its
completeness that it can be so viewed.

In order to make the results as beneficial
as possible, we ask that voters mark only one
candidate on their ballot. In other words, vote
either Republican or Democratic, but not
both.

Regardless of how apolitical or resigned to
despair you may fancy yourself to be, please
vote. With so many candidates, there must be
some whom you prefer to others. If you do
not make that feeling known, someone else's
preference could well win.
