Edward Albee's "A Delicate
Balance" will be the Virginia
Players second major production of
the season. The play opens
Monday, Nov. 15 and runs through
Sunday Nov. 21. "A Delicate
Balance" won the Pulitzer Prize for
drama in 1966 and was Edward
Albee's most important Broadway
success since his play "Who's Afraid
of Virginia Woolf" opened four
years earlier.

Like "Virginia Woolf." "A
Delicate Balance" dramatizes the
intricacies of modern married life
in powerful theatrical language.
There are six characters in the play
and all the action takes place in the
living room of the protagonist
couple. Agnes and Tobias, who are
visited by their neighbors. Harry
and Edna. Agnes' cynical sister.
Claire, and Agnes' daughter, Julia,
round out the cast.

Mr. Albee has said of "A
Delicate Balance." "It is a play
about the nature of responsibility
as against selfishness,
self-protectiveness as against
Christian responsibility."

The Virginia Players' production
of "A Delicate Balance" is being
directed by Arthur Greene. The
cast includes Barbara Slafkosky.
George Black, Allen Mease. Robert
McLaughlin, Paula Johnson, and
Sally Cary Booker. Sets and lighting
are being designed by David Gwin.
