Big Lick's Boom in 1834

During the year of 1834 another town scheme was
organized by citizens of Big Lick, who laid off a town
into lots, streets and alleys, and in May of that year an
auction sale was held which was largely attended by
people from all parts of the county. The promoters,
however, disagreed about the business of the Company,
with the result that this second attempt to build a
town in this vicinity was also abandoned.

Therefore, the city of Roanoke is the result of the
third effort to build a city in this immediate section.
